A Little About Me
So I’m just thinking…
It’s a strange thing, introducing yourself when you’re no longer the person you used to be, but not quite sure who the next version is going to be yet.
Somewhere between experience and reinvention, I landed here.
Writing. Observing. Overthinking—professionally, at this point.
This blog started as a place to put the thoughts that didn’t quite fit anywhere else. The ones that show up at inconvenient times—in the grocery store aisle, mid-conversation, sitting in a coffee shop, or right before you fall asleep when your brain suddenly decides it would like to revisit something that happened twelve years ago.
Useful timing. Truly.
I write about starting over. Friendship. Love. Books. People. Places. The strange little moments most people probably forget five minutes later but somehow follow me home and turn into a story.
Lately, I write about Chicago.
I moved here just before turning fifty, which seems like either an excellent time to reinvent yourself or a questionable time to make major life decisions.
I suppose we’ll find out together.
There’s something about this part of life nobody quite prepares you for. You expect to have accumulated wisdom. What you actually get is some wisdom, considerably better instincts, occasional confusion, and the growing realization that perhaps having everything figured out was never the goal.
I’m certainly not interested in pretending I do.
I’m interested in noticing things.
The person at the next table. The sentence somebody says that stays with you. The way a city feels when it slowly starts becoming home. The people who change us. The ordinary moments that don’t seem important until you look back and realize they were.
And then I write them down.
Sometimes they’re funny. Sometimes they’re tender. Quite often they’re both.
This is really a blog about what happens next.
About starting over when you’re old enough to know that starting over doesn’t mean starting from nothing. You bring all of it with you—the people you’ve loved, the mistakes you’ve made, the things you’ve learned, the things you still don’t understand, and the person all of it made you.
I’m not here to give advice.
I’m here to tell stories.
To notice things. To laugh at them. To tell the truth about them in a way that feels more like a conversation with a friend than a lecture from someone who has it all figured out.
Because I don’t.
And I’m not sure I trust anyone who claims they do.
So I’m just thinking…
Maybe that’s the whole thing.
Not having it figured out, but staying curious anyway.
This space is for that.
The curiosity. The humor. The honesty that sneaks in when you stop trying to sound like you’ve already healed everything.
If you’re here, you probably understand at least part of that.
Or you’re just curious what happens when someone decides to turn her overthinking into a public hobby.
Either way, you’re welcome.
Let’s see where this goes.
I have a feeling we’re going to have a lot to talk about.
